Maria Deshield is the possessor of both an unforgettable smile and a laugh who's subtle volume illuminates every corner of the space it inhabits. On March 11, 2012 Maria's infectious happy spirit was called to be tested, when doctors diagnosed her with metastised breast cancer and 3 months to live. Initial shock and sadness were inescapable; she was not ready to leave this life and most importantly she was not ready to leave her children whom she adores with immense fervor. However, in the same immediate quickness that shock presented itself, came her faith and determination.

 

Maria knew God had another plan, He is the greatest physician. With a God fearing heart, Maria set out to begin her battle against cancer never depriving her family and friends of her warm smiles, kind actions, and contagious laughter. Like her home, Maria's hospital room became inundated with people who adored her. More often than not, there was a waiting list to get in to see her. Maria's trust in the Lord and tenacious spirit kept her from being discouraged and even allowed her to become the comforter. Ironically people who believed to be waiting in line to uplift her spirits through a visit, left themselves encouraged by her.

 

It has been two years since she was given three months to live and Maria has remained who she has always been; a loving mother, passionate child of God and a complete privelege to be around.
